What
is Dry Eye

Dry eye disease is a common yet uncomfortable condition that occurs when your eyes are not hydrated properly by your tears. This can cause your eyes to feel scratchy, gritty, watery, and itchy, and can also lead to blurry vision or scratches on your eye. Your tears are complex, made up of a combination of water, mucus, and oil; if any of these components are lacking, it can lead to dry eye disease.

The
Different Types of Dry Eye

The two main types of dry eye — aqueous and evaporative — stem from different causes. Aqueous dry eye occurs when your glands aren’t producing enough tears and are unable to properly hydrate your eyes. Evaporative dry eye results from your tears evaporating too quickly, which dries your eyes out. Though the root causes are different, Dalton Family Eyecare has solutions to provide fast relief and address each underlying issue.

TearLab

The TearLab Osmolarity System helps us test your tears’ osmolarity, or concentration — a key indicator of their stability and effectiveness for hydrating your eyes.

Meibography

We use a specialized imaging process developed exclusively for the purpose of examining your meibomian glands to identify any abnormalities that could cause dry eye symptoms.

Inflammadry

This recently developed technology allows our dry eye doctors to rapidly and accurately measure inflammation-triggering proteins (MMP-9) in your tears, allowing us to diagnose the severity of your dry eye early.

How we Detect Dry Eye

At Dalton Family Eyecare, we use cutting-edge diagnostic technology for every aspect of our care, and dry eye disease is no different. Our expert doctors will help pinpoint exactly what is causing your symptoms so we can then customize a treatment plan, just for you.

Our Dry Eye Treatments

Once we’ve determined the source of your dry eye disease, we can develop a personalized treatment plan to address it, completely customized for each individual patient’s case and needs. We have plenty of treatment options for dry eye, including:

BlephEx®

BlephEx® is an in-office treatment where our doctors finely spin a soft, medical grade micro-sponge along your eyelids and lashes to remove bacterial biofilm. When performed by a professional, BlephEx® can help clear up blockages that prevent healthy tear production.

EZ Tearsâ„¢

EZ Tearsâ„¢ are an eye vitamin created specifically to keep your eyes healthy and refreshed, and work well for patients with occasional dry eye symptoms.

Regener-Eyes®

Regener-Eyes® are specialized, biotic eye drops that use anti-inflammatory proteins and growth factors to reduce inflammation and stimulate the ocular surface to repair itself.

Punctal Plugs

Punctal plugs are tiny, biocompatible devices that are inserted into your tear ducts to slow drainage, increasing the eye’s tear film and hydration.

MiBoFlow

About 85% of dry eye cases are “evaporative,” where your tears don’t have enough oil and evaporate too quickly. That’s why we use MiBoFlow, which applies targeted, comfortable heat to your eyelid’s oil-producing meibomian glands. This soothes inflammation, clears blocked glands, and helps your tears last longer.

At Home Treatment Options

Our experts will help you select a product from our array of prescription and over-the-counter eye drops and vitamins, [at-home eye care] which will work best for your case of dry eye.

“This little practice is amazing. All of the staff is so very helpful and accommodating. Doctor Dalton is the best because as he says his job is to NOT cause drama. I thought that was funny. He’s so helpful and very good at explaining everything he’s doing as well as what’s going on with your eyes, why, and how to correct or at least slow certain progressions down. I appreciate them so much I drive all the way from Conyers Georgia to Cleveland Georgia just to see them. This time I brought one of my children with me and we felt so blessed because we never expected it but within an hour and a half he walked out with new glasses and could see again LOL. Cheers to a great team and thank you for what you do.”

“Just figured out how to leave a review. I’m disabled so I have Medicare. They treated me with respect. My glasses only costed about $100 more than what insurance covered. They even gave me a discount. Update – I went and had to get new glasses. I’m disabled, I get $240 to use on glasses. They gave me my glasses for a lot less than they were priced.”
